Ricercatori dell’Università di Cagliari hanno esaminato la prevalenza di tiroidite autoimmune e malattia celiaca e gli effetti della dieta priva di glutine sulla funzione tiroidea. La valutazione retrospettiva ha riguardato bambini con malattia celiaca accertata mediante biopsia ( n= 324; rapporto femmine/maschi 2:1; età media: 6.6 anni ), che sono stati seguiti per 1-15 anni. Il controllo era rappresentato da 8.040 bambini della stessa età, in precedenza valutati per anticorpi antitiroidei e funzione tiroidea. Il 10.5% ( n= 34 ) pazienti con malattia celiaca ha sviluppato tiroidite autoimmune ( rapporto femmine/maschi 4.5:1; età media 10.5 anni ), 11 all’insorgenza della celiachia e 23 durante la dieta priva di glutine, con una più alta prevalenza rispetto ai controlli. Ventotto pazienti erano eutiroidei e 6 ipotiroidei. Gli anticorpi antiperossidasi tiroidea ( AbTPO ) e/o gli anticorpi anti-tireoglobulina ( AbTg ) si sono mantenuti elevati per 2-9 anni nonostante la dieta priva di glutine in 9 su 11 pazienti con tiroidite autoimmune all’insorgenza della malattia celiaca. In conclusione, la tiroidite autoimmune è strettamente associata alla celiachia nei bambini sardi, con un’insorgenza, in media, all’età di 10.5 anni, e appare essere indipendente dal glutine. Si in effetti i problemi alla tiroide sono collegati alla celiachia, infatti tra gli esami per chi ha l esenzione sono previsti anche quelli... io l ho scoperto con gli esami di routin della celiachia.
